MerlinMI heading up Press Office at Curacao Windsurf Event
The Curacao Challenge Windsurf Event is going into its second year in 2010. Taking place from April 1st until April 6th, the organization plans on a bigger and better event. And of course with even more world famous and world-class competitors.
We were asked to step up as a sponsor for the event. But we also wanted to contribute something more to the organization. We decided to head up the press office during the event. We are of course very proud to be a platinum sponsor of the event.
Goal
We want to make the event accessible through online means. We want to give as much real time information and news as possible. This way we widen our audience globally and offer an in depth view of the event.
How?
We are going to run a 'Online news magazine' but with the features of a weblog. We made use of the numerous possibilities of the open source Wordpress technology, serving our every needs. The website was pimped by PRGV.
During the event we (a team of surf enthousiasts) will offer interviews, results, online video and photos.
Targetgroup
- Press (as much information, as fast as we can)
- Audience on the beach (special mobile sites for fast check) and as they come home from watching the event
- Participants (watch your own pictures, videos and results)
- International followers (who, unfortunately couldn't be present on Curacao)
Of course we are also aiming for interaction on the website: visitors can react and everybody who has something nice to share, can do so. Think of spectator photos and videos.
Social Media
We make use of the 'reminder-principle'. Through soucial media we connect with a targetted group who are interested in our event and we keep them interested by sending out 'tweets' and 'updates' on Twitter and Facebook. Of course this generates more visits to our site, which is very interesting for our sponsors. We encourage sponsors to make use of special promotions on the website and promote them in effective banners, also resulting in more value for our website.
